Kitchen Adventure #5 Caprese Steak Roll-ups

I decided to try a recipe for a Caprese Steak Roll-up that I recently found on www.TipHero.com. One quick look at the video on the recipe link and you’ll see why it was an easy decision to try this recipe.

The first step, as always, was to gather supplies. I planned to substitute basil leaves with spinach because I’m not a big fan of basil. As I was shopping I discovered that I was going to have to make a few more adjustments. The big box store that I was shopping at didn’t have sun dried tomatoes and doesn’t carry prosciutto. I decided to use fresh diced tomatoes and substituted dry Genoa salami for the prosciutto. I LOVE dry salami. This product was delicious but the best I have ever had. My favorite is Gallo Salame. If you the opportunity to try it I highly recommend it. You can find it HERE. Here are the ingredients that I started out with.

After I gathered the ingredients it was time to prepare the final product. Everything was layered on with great precision.

Once everything was assembled I had to roll up the log of deliciousness, tie it up and toothpick everything in to place. There was only one small problem. I am a guy. Single guys don’t have cooking twine on hand. It made things tricky but I made it through and got the meat in to the skillet. The wine helped me get through the missing cooking twine incident.

After a few minutes on each side in the skillet it was time to stick them in the oven. After 8-10 minutes in the oven I took them out of the oven, covered them and let them rest.

I was thrilled with the way that this turned out. Prep was easy, clean up was minimal and the end result was more than worth the effort. I give the two thumbs WAY up and suggest that you try this soon.
